How I arrived at RWM:

“After six years on active duty as a Captain in the United States Army, I joined a family tax practice and began doing income tax work in Tuxedo, New York. During the 2007-2009 recession, I had a lot of clients ask me what they should do with their investments. In seeking answers, I found two voices of reason in the chaos of that time in Barry and Josh – both of which helped me and my clients understand and survive the crisis. I added a Certified Financial Planner™ / CFP  designation in 2012.  When Ritholtz Wealth Management put out a notice for financial planners I responded to the inquiry less than ten minutes after the notice posted. It’s been an incredible ride so far working with our team and the most rewarding experience of my professional career.”

Favorite part of the job:

“I just honestly like helping people, especially if it involves finding a way to reduce a client’s tax burden. I feel that most advisers don’t pay enough attention to the impact their investment recommendations have on an after-tax basis, so when I’m able to keep more of our client’s investment earnings in their portfolios, I feel good about what we are doing.”

Experience:

  • LinkedIn
  • United States Army, Captain; awarded Bronze Star Medal for combat action in Iraq in 2003

Education:

  • Computer and Systems Engineering (B.S.), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ / CFP

When I’m Not Working:

“In 2017, I became a father for the first time to a happy, baby boy, Sam.  I am really enjoying this new role and love spending time with my family.  Another passion of mine is restoration work.  Most recently, I restored an 1840 boarding house.”

How I arrived at RWM:

“I had spent many years in the financial services industry and saw the growing trend of registered investment advisory firms entering the space. I wanted to learn more, so I moved along with these changes in the industry. After gaining seven years’ experience at an RIA firm, I jumped at the chance to help RWM build their operations from the ground up.”

Favorite part of the job:

“I love interacting with our clients. Whether I am helping them establish a relationship with our firm, transitioning over their accounts or troubleshooting an operational issue, there is never a dull moment. I also enjoy working with numbers and finding ways to improve efficiencies in our operations.”

When I’m Not Working:

“I’m a single mother to three children, and that role is the most fulfilling one in my life. Supporting my children in their pursuits, be it in academics, athletics or musical arts is how I enjoy spending my time. Relaxing with my family, cooking and watching hockey are all ways I like to unwind.”

How I arrived at RWM:

“After leaving the Navy in 2005, I took a job at Merrill Lynch in Washington DC. I was looking for something completely different from the military and didn’t want the typical “Navy-Lite” life (such as Booz Allen, Lockheed, etc). When I started, a USMA grad pulled me aside and suggested I read David Rosenberg and Richard Bernstein. Reading Rosenberg led me to Barry’s blog, The Big Picture, which I still read every day.”

Favorite part of the job:

“Finding solutions that can help advisors and clients with financial planning is most rewarding.”

Patricia Hatzfeld

Chief Compliance Officer
Chief Compliance Officer

How I arrived at RWM:

“I had spent many exciting years as a regulator in the financial services industry, leading national programs to review compliance of broker-dealers and registered representatives with securities laws and rules. Having had exposure to various types of large and small firm compliance programs, I decided to take a new step in my career by pursuing a compliance role at a private firm. Given the trend of increasing registered investment advisory services, I was interested in challenging myself by learning and applying my skill set in this growing area. I was fortunate to learn of the opportunity to build out the Compliance program at RWM. It didn’t take me long to see how revered Barry and Josh were and I quickly realized that it was a chance to become part of one of the fastest-growing registered investment advisory firms in the nation and I never looked back.”

When I’m Not Working:

“I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband Chris and I live on Long Island and are very proud of our three children Christina, Matthew and Sean. Christina is a nurse, Matthew is finishing up college and Sean is in 9th grade. We typically spend our time together at sporting events, both professional and amatuer (retired baseball Mom turned hockey Mom). In the summer, we like to enjoy all Long Island has to offer by playing golf, boating and enjoying the beaches. We also love spending down time with our adorable Cockapoo, Buddy”.
